# What AndOr does

> AndOr runs promotions that shoppers see on your store, upsell offers that nudge them to add more, and rules for your checkout.

AndOr does two jobs. It runs promotions that shoppers can see on your
store, and it runs rules that control your Shopify checkout.

## Promotions

A promotion is three parts that you set up together in one place:

- **A discount.** A real Shopify discount, for example "Buy 3, get 10%
  off".
- **Storefront widgets.** Theme blocks that show the discount on your
  store, for example a volume price table on the product page.
- **An upsell offer.** A short message inside the widget that tells
  shoppers what to add to get the next reward, with a one-click add
  button. Some promotion types have no upsell offer.

Example: you pick **Volume discount** in the gallery. AndOr creates the
discount, a volume tiers widget for your product page, and a volume
picker upsell offer, all from one page.

## Checkout rules

Checkout rules change what shoppers see and can do at checkout. They
run inside Shopify's checkout, so you do not add anything to your
theme for them.

- **Payment rules:** hide, rename or reorder payment methods, and hide
  express checkout options.
- **Shipping rules:** hide, rename or reorder shipping methods.
- **Checkout validation:** block checkout when a condition is not met,
  for example a PO box address.
- **Discount rules:** product, order, shipping, combined and tiered
  rewards discounts with conditions.

Each rule runs only when its conditions match. Example: hide Cash on
Delivery when the cart total is over an amount you choose.

## The pages in the app

The app menu in your Shopify admin has these pages:

- **Home:** cards to **Run a promotion**, **Create a discount** or
  **Control checkout**, **Finish setup** while a guide is not done, and
  your rules. The **Upsell offers** card shows once you have a
  promotion.
- **Promotions:** your promotions, upsell offers and storefront
  widgets, in three tabs:
  - **Promotions:** each row is one discount with its storefront
    widgets and upsell offer. Click **Create promotion** to start.
  - **Upsell offers:** every upsell offer, its status and its results.
  - **Storefront widgets:** which discounts your storefront shows, and
    the steps to add the widgets to your theme.
- **Analytics:** the results of your promotions and upsell offers.
- **Rules:** all your checkout rules and discount rules. Create,
  import, export and turn them on or off here.
- **Plan:** your current plan, what it includes, and this month's
  usage.
- **FAQ:** common questions and a link to support.
- **Settings:** the app language and your storefront languages.
