An order goal gives money off the order when the cart reaches a total,
for example 10% off orders over 100. A progress bar shows how much more
to spend, with products that get shoppers there.

## At a glance

| | |
| --- | --- |
| **Gallery group** | Promotions with an upsell offer |
| **Discount** | An order discount with spend tiers. Default: 5% off from 50, 10% off from 100, 15% off from 200, in your store currency. |
| **Theme block** | **AndOr Order goal**, on the cart page or the product page |
| **Upsell offer** | **Goal suggestions**, on the **Product page**, **Cart page** and **Cart drawer** |
| **What the app embed adds** | Your brand color, the parts in the cart drawer (if any), shared look settings and your Storefront text. The block shows without it. |

## Before you start

- Decide your tiers. Nothing needs picking: the discount applies to
  all products by default.
- Turn on the app embed once. See
[Turn on the app embed](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/get-started/install/#turn-on-the-app-embed). For what works without it, see [the app embed table](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/widgets/app-embed/#what-works-without-the-app-embed).

## Set it up in the app

1. **Open Promotions, click Create promotion, then click Choose on the Order goal card.**

It is under **Promotions with an upsell offer**. The card says
"Money off when the cart reaches a total. Shows a progress bar."

(Screenshot: The promotion gallery with the Order goal card and its Choose button)

2. **Set the tiers in the Discount section.**

Change the three starting tiers to your own.

3. **Check the Storefront widgets section.**

   **Show storefront widgets** is on.

4. **Write the upsell message and pick where it shows.**

**Add an upsell offer** is on. Edit the **Message**. Under **Where
it shows**, tick **Product page**, **Cart page** or **Cart drawer**.

The suggested products start as **Shopify recommendations**. To
suggest a collection or chosen products, edit the offer on the
**Upsell offers** page after you save. See
   [Products to suggest](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/offers/message-and-placements/#products-to-suggest).

5. **Set the dates in Schedule and status, then click Make it live.**

Or click **Save as draft** to finish later.

## Add it to your theme

**What's next** shows on the promotion page after you click **Make it
live**, not after **Save as draft**. It goes away when you dismiss it
or leave the page. No What's next panel? Open **Promotions**. In the
row's **Storefront widgets** column, click **Add block**. It shows when the block isn't in your theme yet.

1. **Under What's next, click Open theme editor.**

**Add the widget to your theme** names the **AndOr Order goal**
block. The link opens your cart page, where shoppers watch their
total, with the block added at the bottom of the section.

2. **Drag the block above the cart lines, then click Save.**

(Screenshot: The theme editor on an empty cart with the AndOr Order goal block selected and its sample bar showing)

3. **For the cart drawer, add the block to a product page too.**

In the theme editor, open a product template, click **Add block**,
choose **Apps**, then **AndOr Order goal**. Turn on its **Also show
in the cart drawer** setting and click
**Save**. This copies the bar to the top of the cart drawer. It
needs a theme that sends Shopify's storefront cart events, like Horizon 4.0+ or Dawn 15.5+. See [Theme requirements](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/get-started/theme-requirements/). The bar in the cart drawer
also needs the app embed. See
   [Turn on the app embed](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/get-started/install/#turn-on-the-app-embed).

The block also has a **Layout** setting (**Horizontal** or **Stacked
list**) and message settings. See
[Goal bar block settings](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/widgets/goal-bar/#block-settings).

## Check it on your store

1. **Under What's next, click View on store.**

It opens your store, or a product or collection from this discount
if you picked one. Open your cart,
add items and watch the bar fill. The suggested products show under
   the bar.

2. **Under Try it at checkout, click Open store.**

Add items that qualify, then check out. If you picked specific
variants, the button is **Open cart** and opens a cart with one of
   them.

Reach a tier and check the discount at checkout.

**Not showing?**

- The block is not on the cart or product template, or you did not
  click **Save**.
- **Show storefront widgets** is off, or the discount is a draft or
  outside its dates.
- The discount needs a code. The goal bar only shows automatic
  discounts.
- No products under the bar: the upsell offer is paused, or the place
is not ticked in **Where it shows**.
- In the cart drawer only: the app embed or **Also show in the cart drawer** is off, or
your theme doesn't send Shopify's storefront cart events (Horizon 4.0+
  and Dawn 15.5+ do).

See [Widgets not showing](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/help/widgets-not-showing/) and
[What the goal bar needs](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/widgets/goal-bar/#what-it-needs-to-appear).

## Turn the offer on or off

To stop the offer for a while, click **Pause offers** in the row's
**...** menu on the **Promotions** list, or **Pause** on the
**Upsell offers** page. The discount keeps working at checkout. The bar keeps showing, but without suggested products.
See [Manage offers](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/offers/manage-offers/).

**No offer yet?** In the **Promotions** list, click **Add offer** in
the row's **Upsell offer** column.

## Settings and limits

| Setting | What it does | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Name** | The promotion's name in the app. Shoppers see each tier's **Discount message** at checkout. Up to 60 characters, and different from your other discounts' names. | Order goal |
| **Discount tiers** | Each tier applies when the cart meets its minimum subtotal. Click **Add another tier** for another. | 3 tiers |
| **Discount type** | **Percentage** or **Fixed amount**. | Percentage |
| **Discount percentage** | The percent off for this tier. With **Fixed amount**, this field is **Discount amount**. | |
| **Minimum subtotal required** | The order subtotal that reaches this tier. | |
| **Discount message** | Shown to shoppers at checkout when the tier applies. Edit it to match your currency. | 5% off orders over $50 (one per tier) |
| **Combine with** | Which other discounts can apply with this one. | **Product discounts**, **Shipping discounts** |

Limits:

- With **Shipping discounts** ticked, the order goal can share one goal
bar with a [free shipping goal](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/promotions/free-shipping-goal/).
- If another goal discount can't combine with this one, AndOr still
shows one bar, so shoppers always see a goal. That bar can name a
different reward than the one checkout pays. See
  [Discount combinations](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/developers/combinations/#two-goal-discounts-that-do-not-combine).
- For a bar with no upsell offer, use the
  [Order goal bar](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/promotions/order-goal-bar/) promotion instead.
