# Tiered rewards promotion (spend and save) > Unlock free shipping, free gifts and money off at different cart amounts, all on one progress bar. One discount pays every tier the cart reaches. ## At a glance | | | | --- | --- | | **Gallery group** | Promotions with an upsell offer | | **Discount** | One discount with up to 6 tiers. Default: free shipping from 50, a free gift from 100, a free gift from 150 and 10% off from 200, in your store currency. The block shows without it. | ## Before you start - Add the gift products to your store first. Each gift tier needs one. - Turn on the app embed if you have gift tiers and a cart drawer. See [Turn on the app embed](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/get-started/install/#turn-on-the-app-embed). For what works without it, see [the app embed table](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/widgets/app-embed/#what-works-without-the-app-embed). ## Set it up in the app 1. **Open Promotions, click Create promotion, then click Choose on the Tiered rewards card.** It is under **Promotions with an upsell offer**. The card says "Free shipping, free gifts and money off at different cart amounts. One progress bar shows every reward." (Screenshot: The promotion gallery with the Tiered rewards card and its Choose button) 2. **Set the tiers and pick the gifts in the Discount section.** Change the four starting tiers to your own. A banner says "Pick a gift product for each free gift tier." Click **Add or change gift products** on each gift tier. (Screenshot: The Discount section of a tiered rewards promotion) 3. **Check the Storefront widgets section.** **Show storefront widgets** is on. 4. **Set up the upsell offer.** **Add an upsell offer** is on. Edit the **Message** and **Where it shows**. This is the **Goal suggestions** offer under the bar. Each gift tier also gets its own **Free gift** offer. Open **Gift settings**. Both **Add the gift for the shopper** and **Let shoppers choose their gift** are on. Keep both for one gift product. Turn off the first if the gift has many products. (Screenshot: The Schedule and status section with the Make it live button) ## Add it to your theme **What's next** shows on the promotion page after you click **Make it live**, not after **Save as draft**. It goes away when you dismiss it or leave the page. No What's next panel? Open **Promotions**. In the row's **Storefront widgets** column, click **Add block**. It shows when the block isn't in your theme yet. 1. **Under What's next, click Open theme editor.** **Add the widget to your theme** names the **AndOr Order goal** block. The link opens your cart page with the block added. Drag it above the cart lines and click **Save**. (Screenshot: The theme editor cart page with the AndOr Order goal block selected and the three-step ladder: free shipping at $50, a free gift at $100 and 10% off at $200) 2. **If you have gift tiers, add the AndOr Offer picker block to the cart page.** What's next only names **AndOr Order goal**, but the gift slots come from the **AndOr Offer picker** block. In the theme editor, open the cart page, click **Add block**, choose **Apps**, then **AndOr Offer picker**. Drag it under the cart lines and click **Save**. (Screenshot: The AndOr Offer picker block selected on the cart page in the theme editor) 3. **For the cart drawer, do both of these.** Add the **AndOr Order goal** block to a product page and turn on its **Also show in the cart drawer** setting. Then turn on the app embed: the goal bar and the gift slots in the drawer need it. See [Turn on the app embed](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/get-started/install/#turn-on-the-app-embed). Add items and watch each step of the bar unlock. 2. **Reach a gift tier.** The gift slot shows the gift. AndOr adds it, or the shopper picks it in the [gift chooser](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/widgets/gift-chooser/). 3. **Go to checkout** and check each reward. Or under **Try it at checkout**, click **Open store**, add items that qualify, then check out. **Not showing?** - The **AndOr Order goal** block is not on the cart or product template. - **Threshold type** is **Quantity**. The goal bar only counts the cart subtotal. - The discount needs a code. The goal bar cannot know when a shopper has typed one. - No gift slot: the **AndOr Offer picker** block is not on the cart template, or a gift offer is paused. - In the cart drawer only: **Also show in the cart drawer** or the app embed is off. See [Widgets not showing](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/help/widgets-not-showing/) and [Free gift not added, or not free](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/help/free-gift-problems/). ## Turn the offer on or off To stop the offer for a while, click **Pause offers** in the row's **...** menu on the **Promotions** list, or **Pause** on the **Upsell offers** page. The discount keeps working at checkout. This pauses the suggestions and the gift offers, while the bar keeps working. Each offer also has its own row on the **Upsell offers** page. Up to 60 characters, and different from your other discounts' names. | Tiered rewards | | **Threshold type** | What the tier minimums count, measured before discounts. Gift units never count. **Quantity** or **Spend (subtotal)**. | Spend (subtotal) | | **Exclude items already on sale** | Items with a compare-at price don't count or get money off. | Off | | **Tiers** | Each tier unlocks its reward when the cart reaches its minimum. For shipping and order discounts, the reached tier with the highest minimum pays. Click **Add tier** for another. | 4 tiers | | **Reward** | What the tier gives: **Free shipping**, **Shipping discount**, **Order discount** or **Free gift**. | | | **Minimum subtotal** | The cart amount that unlocks the tier. With **Quantity**, this is **Minimum quantity**. | | | **Discount type** | For order and shipping discount tiers: **Percentage** or **Fixed amount**. | | | **Gift products** | For **Free gift** tiers. Click **Add or change gift products**. | | | **Free items count** | For **Free gift** tiers: how many free items the tier gives. | | | **Product eligibility** | **All products** or **Exclude collections**. Excluded products don't count toward a minimum or get money off. Gifts are still given. | All products | | **Customer message** | Optional. If blank, shoppers see the discount name. | | | **Combine with** | Tick **Product discounts**, **Order discounts** or **Shipping discounts**. | None | Each gift tier's offer has the gift settings, including **Open the gift chooser when the gift unlocks**, even when the upsell offer is off. See [Gift settings](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/offers/gift-settings/). Limits: - Up to 6 tiers, and up to 3 gift tiers, per promotion. - A percentage off can be up to 100%. A gift tier can give up to 100 free items. - With **Threshold type** set to **Quantity**, storefront widgets cannot show it: "its tiers count items, and the goal bar can only count the cart subtotal for now." - A tiered discount that needs a discount code cannot show on the goal bar: "the goal bar cannot know when a shopper has typed one." - Gift units don't count toward any tier minimum.
