A volume discount (quantity breaks) gives a bigger discount as shoppers buy more, and
shows the tiers on the product page as a picker that sets the quantity.

## At a glance

| | |
| --- | --- |
| **Gallery group** | Promotions with an upsell offer |
| **Discount** | A product discount with quantity tiers. Default: 3 items for 10% off, 6 items for 15% off, 12 items for 20% off. |
| **Theme block** | **AndOr Volume tiers**, on the product page |
| **Upsell offer** | **Volume picker**, on the **Product page** |
| **What the app embed adds** | Your brand color, the parts in the cart drawer (if any), shared look settings and your Storefront text. The block shows without it. |

## Before you start

- Decide which products get the discount. The default is **All
products**. You can pick products or collections instead.
- Turn on the app embed once. See
[Turn on the app embed](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/get-started/install/#turn-on-the-app-embed). For what works without it, see [the app embed table](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/widgets/app-embed/#what-works-without-the-app-embed).

## Set it up in the app

1. **Open Promotions, click Create promotion, then click Choose on the Volume discount card.**

It is under **Promotions with an upsell offer**. The card says "Buy
more, save more. Shows a table of price tiers."

(Screenshot: The promotion gallery with the Volume discount card and its Choose button)

2. **Set the tiers in the Discount section.**

Change the three starting tiers to your own. Keep **Tier basis** on
**Quantity of items** and every **Tier discount** a percentage off.
   See [Settings and limits](#settings-and-limits).

3. **Check the Storefront widgets section.**

**Show storefront widgets** is on. The layouts here (**Cards**,
**List**, **Mini buttons**, **Boxes**) only change the preview. You
set the real layout on the block in your theme.

4. **Write the upsell message.**

**Add an upsell offer** is on. Edit the **Message** and use the
**Insert:** buttons for values that change with the cart, like how
many more items reach the next tier. The offer shows on the
   **Product page**.

5. **Set the dates in Schedule and status, then click Make it live.**

Or click **Save as draft** to finish later. A draft shows nothing
   on your store.

## Add it to your theme

**What's next** shows on the promotion page after you click **Make it
live**, not after **Save as draft**. It goes away when you dismiss it
or leave the page. No What's next panel? Open **Promotions**. In the
row's **Storefront widgets** column, click **Add block**. It shows when the block isn't in your theme yet.

1. **Under What's next, click Open theme editor.**

**Add the widget to your theme** names the **AndOr Volume tiers**
block. The link opens your theme editor on a product page with the
block added at the bottom of the section.

2. **Drag the block under the price, then click Save.**

(Screenshot: The theme editor with the AndOr Volume tiers block under the price)

The dashed price in the editor preview is a sample. It shows until a discount applies to the product you preview.

3. **Check the Picker layout setting on the block.**

Pick **Cards**, **List**, **Mini buttons** or **Boxes**. Do not pick
**Table**: Table never shows the picker. Use it only for a second
block that should always show the price table.

You can also set the **Heading** and the **Most popular tag**. See
   [Volume tiers block settings](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/widgets/volume-tiers/#block-settings).

> **Note:** The volume picker shows only when all of these are true:
>
> - A live **Volume picker** offer is linked to this discount, with
> **Product page** in **Where it shows**.
> - The tiers are counted by quantity (**Tier basis**: **Quantity of
> items**).
> - The discount has no customer conditions. The store page cannot
> check who the shopper is.
> - The block's **Picker layout** is not **Table**.
>
> Otherwise the block shows the price table.

## Check it on your store

1. **Under What's next, click View on store.**

It opens your store, or a product or collection from this discount
if you picked one. Open a product
that gets the discount. You should see the tiers as a picker under
the price. Pick a tier and the quantity field changes.

2. **Under Try it at checkout, click Open store.**

Add items that qualify, then check out. If you picked specific
variants, the button is **Open cart** and opens a cart with one of
   them.

Reach a tier and check the price at checkout.

**Not showing?**

- The block is not on the product template, or you did not click
  **Save** in the theme editor.
- The product is not in **Applies to**.
- **Show storefront widgets** is off, or the discount is a draft or
  outside its dates.
- You see the table, not the picker: check the list in the note above.
- A **Tier discount** is a fixed amount. Storefront widgets need a
  percentage off.

See [Widgets not showing](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/help/widgets-not-showing/) and
[What the Volume tiers block needs](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/widgets/volume-tiers/#what-it-needs-to-appear).

## Turn the offer on or off

To stop the offer for a while, click **Pause offers** in the row's
**...** menu on the **Promotions** list, or **Pause** on the
**Upsell offers** page. The discount keeps working at checkout. With the offer paused, the block shows the price table only.
See [Manage offers](https://backtrackhq.com/docs/offers/manage-offers/).

**No offer yet?** In the **Promotions** list, click **Add offer** in
the row's **Upsell offer** column.

## Settings and limits

(Screenshot: The Discount section of a volume discount promotion with its settings)

| Setting | What it does | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Name** | Shown at checkout when the discount has no message. Up to 60 characters, and different from your other discounts' names. | Volume discount |
| **Tier basis** | Whether tiers count items or spend. **Quantity of items** or **Subtotal amount**. | Quantity of items |
| **Discount based on** | What picks the tier. **All products (combined)**: all selected items are added up. **Product**: each product's own total. **Variant**: each variant's own total. | Product |
| **Exclude products already on sale** | Skips items whose compare-at price is higher than their price. | Off |
| **Tiers** | Each tier has a **Minimum threshold** and a **Tier discount**. Click **Add tier** for another. | 3, 6 and 12 items |
| **Applies to** | Which products get the discount: **All products**, **Specific products** or **Specific collections**. | All products |
| **Combine with** | Tick **Product discounts**, **Order discounts** or **Shipping discounts**. | None |

Limits:

- With **Exclude products already on sale** on, storefront widgets
cannot show this discount. A product page cannot check which items
  are already on sale.
- For storefront widgets, every **Tier discount** must be a percentage
  off.
- A discount counted by **Subtotal amount** keeps the table and gets
the "add more" line under it, but never the picker.
