Order goal promotion
On this page

An order goal gives money off the order when the cart reaches a total, for example 10% off orders over 100. A progress bar shows how much more to spend, with products that get shoppers there.
At a glance
| Gallery group | Promotions with an upsell offer |
| Discount | An order discount with spend tiers. Default: 5% off from 50, 10% off from 100, 15% off from 200, in your store currency. |
| Theme block | AndOr Order goal, on the cart page or the product page |
| Upsell offer | Goal suggestions, on the Product page, Cart page and Cart drawer |
| What the app embed adds | Your brand color, the parts in the cart drawer (if any), shared look settings and your Storefront text. The block shows without it. |
Before you start
- Decide your tiers. Nothing needs picking: the discount applies to all products by default.
- Turn on the app embed once. See Turn on the app embed. For what works without it, see the app embed table.
Set it up in the app
-
Open Promotions, click Create promotion, then click Choose on the Order goal card.
It is under Promotions with an upsell offer. The card says “Money off when the cart reaches a total. Shows a progress bar.”

-
Set the tiers in the Discount section.
Change the three starting tiers to your own.

-
Check the Storefront widgets section.
Show storefront widgets is on.
-
Write the upsell message and pick where it shows.
Add an upsell offer is on. Edit the Message. Under Where it shows, tick Product page, Cart page or Cart drawer.
The suggested products start as Shopify recommendations. To suggest a collection or chosen products, edit the offer on the Upsell offers page after you save. See Products to suggest.

-
Set the dates in Schedule and status, then click Make it live.
Or click Save as draft to finish later.

Add it to your theme
What’s next shows on the promotion page after you click Make it live, not after Save as draft. It goes away when you dismiss it or leave the page. No What’s next panel? Open Promotions. In the row’s Storefront widgets column, click Add block. It shows when the block isn’t in your theme yet.
-
Under What’s next, click Open theme editor.
Add the widget to your theme names the AndOr Order goal block. The link opens your cart page, where shoppers watch their total, with the block added at the bottom of the section.
-
Drag the block above the cart lines, then click Save.

-
For the cart drawer, add the block to a product page too.
In the theme editor, open a product template, click Add block, choose Apps, then AndOr Order goal. Turn on its Also show in the cart drawer setting and click Save. This copies the bar to the top of the cart drawer. It needs a theme that sends Shopify’s storefront cart events, like Horizon 4.0+ or Dawn 15.5+. See Theme requirements. The bar in the cart drawer also needs the app embed. See Turn on the app embed.
The block also has a Layout setting (Horizontal or Stacked list) and message settings. See Goal bar block settings.
Check it on your store
-
Under What’s next, click View on store.
It opens your store, or a product or collection from this discount if you picked one. Open your cart, add items and watch the bar fill. The suggested products show under the bar.
-
Under Try it at checkout, click Open store.
Add items that qualify, then check out. If you picked specific variants, the button is Open cart and opens a cart with one of them.
Reach a tier and check the discount at checkout.
Not showing?
- The block is not on the cart or product template, or you did not click Save.
- Show storefront widgets is off, or the discount is a draft or outside its dates.
- The discount needs a code. The goal bar only shows automatic discounts.
- No products under the bar: the upsell offer is paused, or the place is not ticked in Where it shows.
- In the cart drawer only: the app embed or Also show in the cart drawer is off, or your theme doesn’t send Shopify’s storefront cart events (Horizon 4.0+ and Dawn 15.5+ do).
See Widgets not showing and What the goal bar needs.
Turn the offer on or off
To stop the offer for a while, click Pause offers in the row’s … menu on the Promotions list, or Pause on the Upsell offers page. The discount keeps working at checkout. The bar keeps showing, but without suggested products. See Manage offers.
No offer yet? In the Promotions list, click Add offer in the row’s Upsell offer column.

Limits:
- With Shipping discounts ticked, the order goal can share one goal bar with a free shipping goal.
- If another goal discount can’t combine with this one, AndOr still shows one bar, so shoppers always see a goal. That bar can name a different reward than the one checkout pays. See Discount combinations.
- For a bar with no upsell offer, use the Order goal bar promotion instead.
