Volume discount promotion (quantity breaks)
On this page

A volume discount (quantity breaks) gives a bigger discount as shoppers buy more, and shows the tiers on the product page as a picker that sets the quantity.
At a glance
| Gallery group | Promotions with an upsell offer |
| Discount | A product discount with quantity tiers. Default: 3 items for 10% off, 6 items for 15% off, 12 items for 20% off. |
| Theme block | AndOr Volume tiers, on the product page |
| Upsell offer | Volume picker, on the Product page |
| What the app embed adds | Your brand color, the parts in the cart drawer (if any), shared look settings and your Storefront text. The block shows without it. |
Before you start
- Decide which products get the discount. The default is All products. You can pick products or collections instead.
- Turn on the app embed once. See Turn on the app embed. For what works without it, see the app embed table.
Set it up in the app
-
Open Promotions, click Create promotion, then click Choose on the Volume discount card.
It is under Promotions with an upsell offer. The card says “Buy more, save more. Shows a table of price tiers.”

-
Set the tiers in the Discount section.
Change the three starting tiers to your own. Keep Tier basis on Quantity of items and every Tier discount a percentage off. See Settings and limits.

-
Check the Storefront widgets section.
Show storefront widgets is on. The layouts here (Cards, List, Mini buttons, Boxes) only change the preview. You set the real layout on the block in your theme.
-
Write the upsell message.
Add an upsell offer is on. Edit the Message and use the Insert: buttons for values that change with the cart, like how many more items reach the next tier. The offer shows on the Product page.

-
Set the dates in Schedule and status, then click Make it live.
Or click Save as draft to finish later. A draft shows nothing on your store.

Add it to your theme
What’s next shows on the promotion page after you click Make it live, not after Save as draft. It goes away when you dismiss it or leave the page. No What’s next panel? Open Promotions. In the row’s Storefront widgets column, click Add block. It shows when the block isn’t in your theme yet.
-
Under What’s next, click Open theme editor.
Add the widget to your theme names the AndOr Volume tiers block. The link opens your theme editor on a product page with the block added at the bottom of the section.
-
Drag the block under the price, then click Save.

The dashed price in the editor preview is a sample. It shows until a discount applies to the product you preview.
-
Check the Picker layout setting on the block.
Pick Cards, List, Mini buttons or Boxes. Do not pick Table: Table never shows the picker. Use it only for a second block that should always show the price table.
You can also set the Heading and the Most popular tag. See Volume tiers block settings.
Note The volume picker shows only when all of these are true:
- A live Volume picker offer is linked to this discount, with Product page in Where it shows.
- The tiers are counted by quantity (Tier basis: Quantity of items).
- The discount has no customer conditions. The store page cannot check who the shopper is.
- The block’s Picker layout is not Table.
Otherwise the block shows the price table.
Check it on your store
-
Under What’s next, click View on store.
It opens your store, or a product or collection from this discount if you picked one. Open a product that gets the discount. You should see the tiers as a picker under the price. Pick a tier and the quantity field changes.
-
Under Try it at checkout, click Open store.
Add items that qualify, then check out. If you picked specific variants, the button is Open cart and opens a cart with one of them.
Reach a tier and check the price at checkout.
Not showing?
- The block is not on the product template, or you did not click Save in the theme editor.
- The product is not in Applies to.
- Show storefront widgets is off, or the discount is a draft or outside its dates.
- You see the table, not the picker: check the list in the note above.
- A Tier discount is a fixed amount. Storefront widgets need a percentage off.
See Widgets not showing and What the Volume tiers block needs.
Turn the offer on or off
To stop the offer for a while, click Pause offers in the row’s … menu on the Promotions list, or Pause on the Upsell offers page. The discount keeps working at checkout. With the offer paused, the block shows the price table only. See Manage offers.
No offer yet? In the Promotions list, click Add offer in the row’s Upsell offer column.
